Mivan Completes Contract to fit out 10 Luxury Carriages

Irish motorists witnessed a unique spectacle throughout July – Belmond Grand Hibernian train carriages, 22 metres long, on the road from Antrim to Dublin. The completed luxury train carriages were transported individually from the Mivan factory in Antrim to the North Wall Yard in Dublin.

2016.07.27 (1)The specially designed long length flatbed truck marked the completion of the contract by international specialist contractor Mivan to fit out 10 luxury carriages for Belmond.

As you would expect these deliveries had to be coordinated with the road authorities and dedicated routes agreed prior to any transportation taking place. These specialist purpose built vehicles were steered not only by the driver but they could also be steered by the driver’s assistant from the rear of the trailer.

Neil Ward, Chief Executive of Mivan, said: “We are delighted to have completed this prestigious project for Belmond, and to demonstrate yet again the superb skills offered by Mivan’s team of craftsmen.”

“Mivan is a strong performer on the global stage and has a work force which has grown to 150 since 2014. We aim to employ 200 skilled staff by the end of 2017 and to continue demonstrating through projects like the Belmond Grand Hibernian that we can deliver superlative results.”

2016.10.28 (4)60 skilled crafts people and 60,000 man hours have been dedicated to transforming the former Mark III Irish Rail carriages into elegant carriages.

Inside 7 months, the Mivan team of specialists have refurbished 5 sleeper cars, 2 restaurant / pantry cars, 1 observation car (including bar), 1 crew car and 1 generator car. Work included the design and installation of metalwork, joinery, painting, fitting, upholstery, electrics, plumbing and signage.

Belmond Grand Hibernian is the latest in a series of prestigious projects by Mivan.

Belmond acquired another Pullman coach in 2015 for the Royal Scotsman and again employed Assenta Ltd to supply a turnkey project by delivering a “State car – SPA”. After provisional mechanical and body works, the coach was shipped to specialist contractor Mivan where the coach was sympathetically outfitted with two spa rooms and 2 guest suites, to reflect the high standard of finishes throughout the remainder of the carriages.
